Below are the weights, tools, and an illustration of the removal of a battery.

Battery weights. For some reason, there is a slight difference between the front and rear batteries. Frankly, I attribute the difference to scale variance.

To remove and replace the bottom battery, I've chosen to use a T-Handle hex wrench, rather than the "standard" L-shaped hex wrench style that came with the Segway. I feel they are more substantial, and don't get lost so easily. At sears.com, you can choose the Craftsman 7-piece hex key set, Sears item #00946298000, which is also referred to as Craftsman Model #46298. The price is $19.99. The photo to the right is the Craftsman set. You'll end up using the 3.0mm hex for the battery, and the 4.0mm hex for the handlebar. The item depicted below, that I purchased from Home Depot, is the Husky set, available in the tool corral. It's a $19.97 set also, and comes as a part of their SKU# 637634122411.

Hex 3.0mm T-handle wrench used to remove/replace batteries. 4 bolts hold each battery in place

This illustrates a removed battery. The blue graphics represent where/how they go together, and the red just represents where the contacts go together.

To the left is a closeup of the battery contact on the bottom of the HT platform.

Below, the 4.0mm T-handle wrench can be used to replace the "L" shaped hex wrench that came with the HT. You'll be less likely to loose it, and you get a better grip with the T-handle.
