Training Resources

If you are a Segway owner, looking for guidance on the best way to demonstrate your HT, and to simulate the training you went through, here are some resources for you. If you are a new owner of an HT, wondering what will transpire, here are images from one training session.

Note the orange cones infront of the trainer, and the small ramp.

NOte the person on the left is practing a tight-turn in a small space, which is often referred to as "...practice turning around in an elevator space...". In the distance, the blue cones are in a tight arc, to practice controled turning.

If you are lucky enough to have more than one HT, demonstrating how to step onto the HT.

From the sporting goods store The Sports Authority (http://www.thesportsauthority.com) you can order these brightly colored training cones that are designed to be effective tools during practice sessions by defining practice areas and allowing riders to learn to control the Segway in restricted spaces. The disc cones are highly visible and collapsible to help reduce injury. This cone is preferred because of it's low profile, which, when run over by the Segway, will pop back up. This allows you to stay with the rider, and not have to repeatedly return to the cones to reset them. Click below to go directly to the Sports Authority page to see the cones and order them online. Item no: 1187107. Their price, $3.99 (set of 4). I recommend having 12 cones.

Alternatively, they are available in a pack of 12, a slightly different color. Click below to go directly to the Sports Authority page to see the cones and order them online. Item no: 973981. Their price, $3.99 (set of 4). I recommend having 12 cones.

We also recommend Soccer Pal 6 Inch Training Cones (Set of 4). These cones have cutouts that make it easier to roll over, and for wind to pass through for demos being done outside. However, the best markers when demos are being done in windy areas the lower profile discs above. this cone is best suited to practice the tight-quarters turns, and not the slolom course, as for early riders it often occurs that they are run over easily. To order the item below, click on Item no: 1187108. Their price: $4.99.
